Things We Like and Use

Our standards

Heirlooms start with what goes into them.

A piece built to last for generations is only as good as everything that goes into it. That’s why we’re as particular about our finishes, glues and resins as we are about our lumber. Every product here earned its place in our shop the same way: premium quality, low- or zero-VOC formulas wherever possible, and a proven record of safety for the homes, kitchens and families our furniture lives with.

We chose these companies because they hold themselves to the same standard we do: the highest quality, made safely, and built to stand the test of time. It’s the same idea SoulWoods was started on back in 2014: build it to last, and build it so it can be repaired. Here’s how it all began, if you’d like the longer story.

01

Built to last

Finishes and adhesives that protect and hold for generations, not seasons.

02

Safe for your home

Low- and zero-VOC formulas, and food-safe options for anything that touches a meal.

03

Partners who share our values

Companies with a long record of quality, safety and respect for the craft.

Finishes

The part you touch every day.

We favor penetrating oils and hardwax finishes that become part of the wood instead of sitting on top of it, so a surface still feels like wood and can be refreshed for decades rather than stripped and redone.

Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C wood finish

Rubio Monocoat

Oil Plus 2C

Our go-to finish. Oil Plus 2C bonds with the wood at the molecular level, protecting it in a single coat with a natural, matte feel. It’s 0% VOC and GREENGUARD Gold certified, the standard set for schools and healthcare spaces, and worn spots can be refreshed without stripping the whole piece. Made by a family company in Belgium since 1906.

Osmo Polyx-Oil hardwax oil

Osmo

Polyx-Oil

A German hardwax oil made from natural plant oils like sunflower, soya and linseed, blended with carnauba and candelilla waxes. It soaks into the wood and lets it breathe, and it’s certified safe for children’s toys (EN 71-3) and resistant to saliva and sweat (DIN 53160).

General Finishes Enduro Clear Poly

General Finishes

Enduro Clear Poly

When a piece needs a tougher shell, like a busy tabletop or a cabinet, we reach for Enduro. This professional-grade, water-based topcoat dries crystal clear without yellowing, and it stands up like most oil-based finishes without the heavy solvents.

TransTint liquid dye concentrates

TransTint

Liquid Dyes

When a design calls for color, we use TransTint concentrated dyes. A few drops tint oils, finishes or stains with clean, vivid color that lets the grain show through instead of covering it up.

Adhesives

The joint you’ll never think about.

A well-made joint should outlast the wood around it. We match the glue to the job, so every piece holds together as long as it’s loved.

Titebond wood glues

Titebond

Original, II & III

Made by Franklin International in Columbus, Ohio, for 90 years. Titebond Original handles our interior work, Titebond II steps in where water resistance matters, and Titebond III, waterproof and FDA-approved for indirect food contact, goes into cutting boards and anything that might see moisture.

Starbond CA glues

Starbond

CA Glues

For fine repairs, inlays and stabilizing cracks and knots, we use Starbond’s premium cyanoacrylate glues. They’re made fresh every month for a long shelf life, and their tinted versions let us fill a knot or check so it disappears into the grain.

TotalBoat Thixo Flex thickened flexible epoxy adhesive

TotalBoat

Thixo Flex Epoxy Adhesive

A thickened, flexible epoxy in a cartridge that mixes itself as it dispenses from a standard caulking gun, with no measuring and no mess. It fills gaps and forms permanent, waterproof bonds that flex with the seasonal movement wood goes through, and it grips even oily hardwoods that ordinary glues struggle with.

Resins (Epoxies)

Saving the boards others would throw away.

Epoxy lets us stabilize voids, rescue cracked slabs and build pieces that wood alone couldn’t, without giving up strength or safety.

EcoPoxy FlowCast casting resin

EcoPoxy

FlowCast

A premium casting resin for deep pours, inlays and castings, made with high bio-content ingredients from renewable resources in place of petrochemicals. It’s low-odor, low-VOC and 100% solids, which is better for our shop and for your home.

TotalBoat

ThickSet Fathom Deep Pour Epoxy
